Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
An important representative said the incident rendered him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
